11th Annual Arts Festival Sept. 24

The Mount Vernon Area Arts Council today announced that the 11th Annual Lincoln Highway Arts Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Uptown Mount Vernon. More than 50 artists and entertainers from across the region are scheduled to gather at the event to celebrate art, music and creativity.

In addition to the art, the festival will feature demonstrations by Andy Gemmell, a local potter working on a potter’s wheel, and Dance Arts Iowa, a Mount Vernon dance troupe for young people. There will be an exhibit of the animatronics that are major attractions in downtown Mount Vernon during the holiday season. There will also be art activities for kids.

Music will be provided by Goin’ Up Caney from 10 am to 12:30 pm and the Deep Dish Divas from 1:30 to 4:00 pm.

At 1 pm, there will be an unveiling of a restored mural of Mount Vernon by Mickey Woods in the City Council chambers.
