14th Annual Lincoln Highway Arts Festival

The Lincoln Highway Arts Festival is on Saturday, September 14, 2019.

This event is presented by the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council. Support for this festival is also provided by the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group and the City of Mount Vernon.

More than 50 artists and entertainers will join the event to celebrate art, music, and creativity.

The festival will feature a kite jamboree this year from 10:00am to 2:00pm.  There will be free kites to decorate and fly for the first 100 kids.  The decorating will occur at MyStudio located in the First Street Community Center.  After decorating their kites, kids can fly them on the football field behind the community center.

Mount Vernon’s annual Art Walk will be include in the arts festival this year.  Local businesses will have exhibits of art.  The live music schedule includes Josh and Leah Woosley (10am – Noon) and Soul Mongers (1pm – 3pm).  There will be an exhibit of the animatronics that are displayed in Mount Vernon during the holiday season.  Dance Arts Iowa will also demonstrate a variety of dance types.

The deadline for artist applications is September 1, 2019.  The entry fee is $75.

About the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council

The mission of the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council is to increase the knowledge, understanding, appreciation and practice of the arts in the Mount Vernon area.

About the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group

The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group exists to improve the social and economic well-being of Mount Vernon and Lisbon by capitalizing on their unique identity, assets and character. Mount Vernon was selected as a Main Street community in 2008, and practices economic development within the context of historic preservation.

About Main Street

The Main Street Approach is a copyrighted process of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Program has been used in Iowa since 1986 with a total of 56 communities having participated. Mount Vernon was selected as a Main Street community on March 4, 2008 by the State of Iowa, after submitting a comprehensive application and presenting to a select board of reviewers.
