This music and chocolate event invites guests to stroll down Mount Vernon’s historic First Street where participating businesses and chocolate vendors will offer chocolate and chocolate products for sample and sale.

Returning this year will be the annual “Make It With Chocolate” Baking Contest open to the public. The contest is broken into two categories: Students (17 years of age and younger) and Adults (age 18+). Bakers are asked to bring their favorite chocolate creation and an entry form to the Conference Room at Mount Vernon City Hall between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on June 2. Winners will be announced at noon. The public is invited to attend the judging event. This can be viewed starting at 10:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

“Mount Vernon is home to several chocolatiers and this event celebrates all of them,” said Chocolate Stroll Committee Chair Sherene Player. “This year’s event will include such specialties as gourmet cupcakes, chocolate raspberry scones, artisan chocolate bars, chocolate-covered coffee beans, as well as the more traditional chocolate truffles, cupcakes, shortbreads and caramels.”

Music begins at 10 a.m. at the Old Fire Station:

  • 10 a.m. – Emily and Dale Beeks
  • 11 a.m. – The Band Nurds
  • 1 p.m. – Jordan Sellergren
  • 2 p.m. – James Kennedy and Friends

Kids’ games and face painting will take place at Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will include activities such as M&M Bingo and crafts throughout the day, and a balloon artist from 1 to 3 p.m.

Additional features for this year’s Chocolate Stroll are Food Trucks that will be parked in front of the First Street Community Center and the showing of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” (1971 version) throughout the day at Video Village and the Mount Vernon Visitor Center.
