Vote Mount Vernon onto the cover of Travel Iowa

From 10 a.m. today through 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, visitors to traveliowa.com, the official tourism website of the state of Iowa, can vote for the cover of the next Iowa Travel Guide.

“We hope everyone who loves Mount Vernon will vote us onto the cover of Travel Iowa,” said Kate Rose, president of the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG). “Mount Vernon and Lisbon volunteers contribute so much to the overall look and culture of our two fantastic communities, it would be so fitting to reward them with this honor. Please vote daily.”

Visitors are encouraged to vote daily for their favorite of four options:

  • Downtown Mt. Vernon
  • Gray’s Lake Park, Des Moines
  • People at Manchester’s Whitewater Park, Manchester
  • Loess Hills, western Iowa

The winning cover will be announced Wednesday, October 25, at the Iowa Tourism Conference in Sioux City and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“The Iowa Travel Guide is one way to showcase Iowa’s diversity of travel destinations,” said Shawna Lode, manager of the Iowa Tourism Office. “The four places featured on these covers are simply the tip of the iceberg. Inside the guide, travelers will find hundreds of ideas to help plan an Iowa getaway.”

The guide, available late January 2017, highlights breweries and wineries, Iowa’s best donuts, the top 50 events in 2018, bike trails, kid-friendly museums and suggested travel itineraries. More than 125,000 guides are distributed annually to travelers from every state and around the world.

Tourism in Iowa generates more than $8.06 billion in expenditures and $466 million in state taxes, plus employs 67,400 people statewide. The Iowa Tourism Office is part of the Iowa Economic Development Authority. For more information, visit traveliowa.com, call 800.345.IOWA, or stop at any Iowa Welcome Center.
