2020 BE Lisbon contest winners announced

The City of Lisbon and the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG), a Main Street Iowa organization, today announced the winners of the 2020 BE Lisbon grant program for Lisbon-based businesses.

Called Business Enhancement (BE) Lisbon, the grant competition now in its third year, has been modeled after the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s (IEDA) Open 4 Business grant competition. This year the City of Lisbon offered one $5,000 grant and one $2,000 grant.

Turtle Club Early Learning Center, 950 Commercial Street, Suite 1, Lisbon won the $5,000 grant, and Salon 30, 941 W. Business 30, Lisbon, won the $2,500 grant. Both businesses agreed to a 25 % cash match, and both plan to use the monies to grow their respective businesses.

The BE Lisbon grant winners were chosen by a group of judges based on an application and a business project pitch.

“The judges were impressed with both of the winning pitches this year,” said BE Lisbon Volunteer Chair Barb Ihde. “This has been an atypical year for business and both of these business owners stepped up and proved that they are ready to grow their businesses.”

Questions about the contest can be directed to Barb Ihde at (319) 440-1520.
