Announcing Easter Family Fun

Area children are invited to take part in the annual Mount Vernon-Lisbon Easter Egg Dash Saturday, April 16, beginning promptly at 10 a.m. at the Mount Vernon High School Track, Palisades Road and Fifth Avenue — and grab a bite to eat with their family before or after the event for a good cause.

New this year will be an added Easter Egg Hunt taking place at Lisbon City Park, 299 E South St., Lisbon, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, as well. Children and families can choose to attend one, two or all three events throughout the day.

The Annual Mount Vernon Fireman’s Breakfast will take place Saturday, April 16, from 6 a.m. to noon, at the Mount Vernon Fire Department, 606 2nd Ave. South, Mount Vernon. The menu will include pancakes, eggs, sausage and coffee, milk, juice and water. $4 children, $6 adults.

The annual Easter events are a collaboration between Cherry Ridge Independent and Assisted Living, the City of Mount Vernon Parks and Rec, the City of Lisbon Parks and Rec, Hallmark Care Center, the Lisbon Fire Department, the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Charitable Development Group (CCDG), the Mount Vernon Volunteer Firefighter’s Association (MVVFA), and the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon.

The Mount Vernon Easter Egg Dash will take place at 10 a.m. The Lisbon Easter Egg Hunt will take place at 11:30 a.m.

Both events are free to all attendees, with more than 3,000 individual plastic eggs filled with candy and prizes; and will host the Easter Bunny who will be shuttled back and forth between locations via fire truck. Families are encouraged to attend both events.

“This event seems to get bigger each year,” said Matt Siders, Chair of the Easter Egg Dash Committee. “We are once again partnering with the Mount Vernon Community School District to use the High School Track, and with Hallmark Care Center whose residents will stuff hundreds of eggs for the Annual Easter Egg Dash. And now, with our partnership with the Mount Vernon Volunteer Firefighters Association, we are able to accommodate even more children and families.”

“We are thrilled to be working with our colleagues in Mount Vernon to offer an even bigger event for area families and children,” said Drayton Kamberling, Lisbon Parks and Rec Director. “By working together, our two communities can serve more families and celebrate together the common joy that this season brings.”

At Mount Vernon’s Easter Egg Dash, children will be divided into four categories based on age:

Aged 0-3 years

Ages 4-5 years

Ages 6-7 years

Ages 8 and up

At Lisbon’s Easter Egg Hunt, children will be divided into three age groups:

Aged 4 and under

Ages 5-8

Ages 9 and up

In addition, Lisbon organizers are asking participants to bring three, hard boiled, Grade A Large Eggs, decorated and marked with their name and age, to Lisbon City Hall between 9 and 10:30 a.m. on the day of the event. In case of Rain, a secondary spot will be determined. Check out the Lisbon Parks & Recreation Facebook page.

The Mount Vernon Easter Egg Dash event is expected to take place outside on the Mount Vernon High School Track. In case of rain, that event will take place inside the Mount Vernon Middle School gymnasium.

Patrons of both events are encouraged to visit the Mount Vernon Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast at the Mount Vernon Fire Station before or after the Easter Egg events.
