CDG awards local volunteers

The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG), a Main Street Iowa Organization, honored its exceptional volunteers on Tuesday, August 16, at a Volunteer Appreciation Disco Party.

Those receiving honors included: Volunteer of the Year – Lee Hilliker; Committee of the Year – Animenagerie Committee; Business of the Year –  Bon Appetit; Citizen of the Year –  Craig Allin. A special recognition was given to the Heritage Days and Sauerkraut Days committees, both past and present. Also special awards were given to Melinda Medina, Sonia Redmond and Margaret Stevens.

The event was hosted at the United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon, 304 1st St. SW, and was turned into a Studio 54-style discotheque complete with faux celebrities, a glittery dance floor and an open bar that served ice cream sundaes only.

This event celebrated the 488 registered CDG volunteers who cumulatively have logged more than 41,000 volunteer hours since the organization began in 2008.
