Children invited to participate in annual Easter Egg Dash, Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast

Easter Bunny and Volunteers

Area children are invited to take part in the annual Mount Vernon-Lisbon Easter Egg Dash Saturday, March 26, beginning promptly at 10 a.m. at the Mount Vernon High School Track, Palisades Road and Fifth Avenue — and grab a bite to eat with their family before or after the event for a good cause.

The annual event is collaboration between the City of Mount Vernon Parks and Rec, Hallmark Care Center and Cherry Ridge Independent and Assisted Living, and the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG).

For the first time in the event’s event history, the Easter Egg Dash committee will be partnering with the Mount Vernon Volunteer Firefighter’s Association (MV-VFA) to create two community events. The MV-VFA will be kicking off its inaugural Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast on the same day, March 26, just down the street, at the Mount Vernon Fire Station, Palisades Road and Second Avenue.

The Annual Fireman’s Breakfast will take place Saturday, March 26, from 6 a.m. to noon. The menu will include pancakes, eggs, sausage and coffee, milk, juice and water. $4 children, $6 adults. The MV-VFA is preparing food for 1,000.

The Easter Egg Dash will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. This event is free to all attendees, with more than 3,000 individual plastic eggs filled with candy and prizes.

Both events will host the Mount Vernon Easter Bunny who will be shuttled back and forth between locations via fire truck. Families are encouraged to attend both events.

“This event seems to get bigger each year,” said Jennie Stoner, Chair of the Easter Egg Dash Committee. “This year we are again partnering with the Mount Vernon Community School District to use the High School Track, and with Hallmark Care Center whose residents will stuff hundreds of eggs for the Annual Easter Egg Dash. And now, with our partnership with the Mount Vernon Volunteer Firefighters Association, we are able to accommodate even more children and families.”

At the Easter Egg Dash, children will be divided into four categories based on age:

Aged 0-3 years

Ages 4-5 years

Ages 6-7 years

Ages 8 and up

The Easter Egg Dash event is expected to take place outside on the High School Track. In case of rain, that event will take place inside the Middle School gymnasium.

Patrons are encouraged to visit the Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast at the Mount Vernon Fire Station before or after the Easter Egg Dash event.
