The Hampstead Stage Players: “The Tale of Psyche and Eros”

April 21, 2018 @ 10:00 am

Free
Children attending Comedy Festival Magic Show

The Hampstead Stage Company from New Hampshire will present a live performance of the Greek myth “The Tale of Psyche and Eros” in Lisbon’s Heritage Hall, which is on the second floor of Lisbon Public Library.  This is a classic story for children and theatre lovers of all ages.

The story begins when the goddess Aphrodite discovers humans worshiping a beautiful mortal named Psyche. Overcome with rage and jealousy, Aphrodite sends her son Eros (also known as Cupid) to punish her.  Accidentally pricked by one of his own arrows, Eros falls hope-lessly in love with Psyche and decides to hide her from Aphrodite in a castle under one condition: Psyche must never see his face.  Of course, she steals a glance, and then has to face several impossible tasks to set things right with the gods, proving that she is as brave as she is beautiful. This Greek myth inspired the story of Beauty and the Beast.

The play is free and recommended for children 9 and up.
