Culinary Destination workshop offered in MV

The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG), a Main Street Iowa organization, today announced details of a small business workshop that will take place Monday, June 26, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the library of the First Street Community Center, 221 1st St. NE, Mount Vernon.

The event, led by Jesssica Dunker, President/CEO of the Iowa Restaurant Association has been made possible with the help of a technical assistance grant through Main Street Iowa, a division of the Iowa Economic Development Authority.

The CDG, the organization that manages Mount Vernon’s Main Street program, worked with the Iowa Restaurant Association (IRA) on a technical grant to seek ways to create a culinary draw in Mount Vernon. Representatives from the IRA worked directly with several Mount Vernon restaurants, and have agreed to hold a public meeting to share how communities have found success creating a collaborative culinary identity.

“Mount Vernon is a charming small town with some really great restaurants,” said Dunker. “I offer this workshop and program all over the state and am excited to come to Mount Vernon to share what I have learned about creating culinary destinations. This is something that I know will benefit this entire community.”

Because the workshop will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m., CDG is planning to offer pulled pork sandwiches and cole slaw provided by Big’s Barbecue. There will also be beer, wine, soda and water. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP (for food and beverage planning) to Joe Jennison at [email protected].
