MV-L to give away $100s to shoppers in December

The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG), a Main Street Iowa organization, has announced a new program to encourage shoppers to consider celebrating “Shop Small” every day.

Based on CDG’s annual Shop Small Saturday event, Mount Vernon-Lisbon’s Shop Small Every Day campaign will put $25 Community Cash in the hands of shoppers who choose to Shop Small this December.

A large anonymous financial gift to the CDG earmarked for a holiday shopping giveaway was received over the Thanksgiving holiday with explicit instructions as to how it should be used. CDG Board Members and other senior volunteers with the organization will plan to be on the streets of Mount Vernon and Lisbon on 20 of the 31 days in December. Volunteers will hand out gift certificates to random shoppers who are caught spending their money locally.

“We were thrilled to receive this large donation from a local donor,” said Joe Jennison, Director of Main Street and Marketing for the Mount Vernon-Lisbon CDG. “There are many, many things this money could be spent on and we are grateful that this donor was insistent that this money go back to the businesses that do so much for all of us. This is just another incentive for everyone to Shop Small in Mount Vernon and Lisbon!”

Several Community Cash gift certificates have been purchased with the financial donation, and shoppers can expect to see volunteers on the street beginning Tuesday, Dec. 3, handing out the gift certificates and bringing holiday cheer to those who frequent MV-L’s small businesses this holiday season.
