Cornell College Faculty Recital
This Faculty Recital features:
- “Words (and Music)” Lisa Hearne, soprano
- Joyce Strabala, piano
- R. Joseph Dieker, clarinet
Lisa Hearne, professor of music, and Joyce Strabala, pianist, will present a faculty recital “Words (and Music).” Featured collaborator is clarinetist R. Joseph Dieker, Dean of the College.
The recital features songs based on poetry by prominent writers such as Emily Dickinson, Mark Twain, and Dana Gioia, former chair of the National Endowment for the Arts. Gioia’s poem, “The Heart of the Matter,” set to music by music theatre composer Jimmy Roberts (“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”) is a duet for clarinet and soprano, and evokes a film noir atmosphere, featuring virtuosic clarinet passages and a bluesy vocal line. Works by Gordon Myers, a nationally recognized singer, teacher, and composer, mark the 75th anniversary of his graduation from Cornell College in 1941. “They Said,” is based on pithy, humorous sayings from famous personalities. Also featured is Leonard Bernstein’s “La Bonne Cuisine,” four short songs based on recipes of exotic dishes.
This event is open to public and admission is free.
