Schultz Strings is proud to present three FREE family friendly concerts in the Corridor:

  • Friday, April 8: 7:30 PM – Lisbon Library’s Heritage Hall, Lisbon, Iowa
  • Sunday, April 10:  7:00 PM – Preucil School of Music, Iowa City, Iowa
  • Sunday, April 17:  2:00 PM – Westminster Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Julia Andrews West and John Schultz will be performing at these recitals as a fundraiser to support projects of the Rotary Club of Mount Vernon – Lisbon. The concert is open to everyone and free will donations will be accepted.  ALL funds will go directly to projects.Details about Concerts for a Cause in April 2016

 

John Schultz, Violin

John holds a Master of Music degree from the Leonard Sorkin Institute of Chamber Music. While there he was a member of the Arreaux String Quartet. Prior to this he received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he studied on full scholarship with Myron Kartman. A strong proponent of the Talent Education Method, John has studied Suzuki violin pedagogy with Nancy Jackson, Alice Joy Lewis, Mark Bjork, and has studied viola pedagogy with William Preucil.

In addition to owning Schultz Strings, John is on faculty at the Preucil School of Music in Iowa City as well and as a faculty member at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA. John has developed many music festivals and is currently the executive director of the Corridor Honors Orchestra. When not teaching and administrating he often plays chamber music concerts throughout the corridor area and occasionally performs with Orchestra Iowa and other professional orchestras.

Away from music John enjoys spending many happy hours participating as a member of Rotary International working in training, leadership development and youth exchange. He is also an avid cyclist recently completing a cross country ride from San Francisco to Virginia Beach with his wife Rebecca and two young children.

Julia Andrews West, Piano

Julia Andrews West has taught private piano for fifteen years in four states. Her students have ranged from age 4 to 80. She teaches students preparing for college auditions, beginning piano students, and adults wanting to explore a new talent. As a performer of both jazz and classical styles, lessons with Julia are varied, student-centered, and fun!

West is an active performer of chamber music and jazz piano. She performs regularly across the Midwest with the jazz trio “Surprisingly Hip.” Along with vocalist Kara Leigh, West released her first cd, “Black Coffee” in the fall of 2007.

West graduated with the Master of Music degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She received two Bachelors’ of Music degrees in piano and music theory from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. While at Texas Tech, she was a Presser Scholar for excellence in music and was the Highest Ranked Undergraduate in the College of Visual and Performing Art

West made her international debut in November 2008 as a guest artist at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music International Contemporary Music Festival in Vietnam. In addition to teaching, West is the organist at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mt Vernon – Lisbon Rotary Club

The club is in the process of revitalizing its membership with local projects in collaboration with other local organizations.

Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated human rights purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.
