Magical Night 2023

Magical Night 2023

Magical Night returns on Thursday, November 30, 2023 in Uptown Mount Vernon, Iowa. A wide range of events will occur along Mount Vernon’s Historic First Street.

Volunteers from the CDG have teamed with the City of Mount Vernon, City of Mount Vernon Parks & Rec, the First Street Community Center, Mount Vernon Community School District, local churches, Cornell College Office of Intercultural Life and all Uptown businesses for this annual holiday celebration.

“Magical Night will include many of its original features and a few new surprises. Returning is the lighting ceremony on the First Street Community Center (FSCC) Lawn, strolling carolers, a live Nativity in Memorial Park and Santa Claus inside the Mount Vernon Bank and Trust. New this year will be a petting zoo on the lawn of the FSCC, a lighted performance by the Marching Mustangs in the parking lot of CAUSETEAM, Iowa Physical Therapy, and Shear Madness; and a Charles Schulz-inspired photo opportunity on the front patio of Iron Leaf Press and Little Scratch Coffee Roasters.”

Mary Evans, volunteer chair of the event for CDG

Visitors to the event are being asked to park at St. John’s Catholic Church, 212 7th St. SE, and load into one of two Mount Vernon Community School District buses for free transportation to and from festival grounds. NOTE: The last bus of the evening is scheduled to leave from festival grounds to St. John’s parking lot at 8 p.m.

Free Handicapped parking is available behind City Hall at 213 1st St. NW. Guests needing handicapped parking are asked to take Highway 1 North one block past 1st Street, turn left on 2nd Street NW, then another left onto 2nd Avenue, up the hill, and then a right into the parking lot behind City Hall. There is a ramp from the lot behind City Hall onto the sidewalk with an easy entrance inside.
