Mt Vernon/Lisbon Community Theatre: “It Can’t Happen Here”
It Can’t Happen Here in Lisbon, Iowa!
As part of an exciting nationwide project, members of the Mt. Vernon-Lisbon theatre community are gathering to present a staged reading of Sinclair Lewis’ 1935 novel, It Can’t Happen Here.
In 1936, the novel–a satire about the rise of fascism in America when a demogogue is elected president–was adapted into a play and theatres across the country all opened their productions on the same night.
Theatres and organizations across the country are commemorating the 80th anniversary during this same week and are listed–along with more information on the project–on the website of the Berkeley Repertory Theatre:

The Lisbon Library is offering this free program in our historic Heritage Hall, a welcoming place for community conversations since 1875.
