Palisades Pen

Writers Night at the Pal hosted by Mike MoranPalisades Pen (formerly Writers Night) is an evening of short readings by Eastern Iowa writers and poets.  This is event is typically held on the the third Tuesday of each month.  It provides an opportunity for local writers gather at Palisades Cafe in Mt Vernon, Iowa to share original writing in an open mic style format.

This event is organized by Stacy Postier and Mary Vizecky.  They are both local authors with a passion for building a community of writers who are interested in sharing their work. Everyone has a story!  This is an opportunity to hear local writers read their work.

If you’d like to read at Palisades Pen:

  • Sign-up ahead of time via email or Facebook
  • 10 minute time limit
  • Original work

All are welcome to attend.  You can read an original piece or just listen to support local writers.  Writers and poets of any age or experience level are invited to participate.  Every week, there will also be one 10-minute slot available to an attendee on the night of the event.

Attendees have a variety of menu options at Palisades cafe, or they can choose to have dessert and coffee. “We have noticed that a lot of our customers are writers, poets and/or avid readers,” says general manager, Elizabeth Gibson.
