This event will be held on three different Saturdays this year:  September 26, October 24, and November 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Shop Small Mount Vernon-Lisbon is part of the national Small Business Saturday campaign initiated by American Express and taking place throughout the country. As part of the local Mount Vernon-Lisbon event, shoppers will have opportunities to win prizes each of the three Saturdays.

New this year is the addition of outdoor shopping to the annual event to allow shoppers to properly social distance.

“All of our festivals and events have been impacted this year due to COVID-19,” said Joe Jennison, Director of Main Street and Marketing for the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group. “We thought spreading our Shop Small event over three months and expanding to the outdoors was the best way to allow both merchants and shoppers to safely social distance during this unusual holiday shopping season.”

Details About Shop Small Saturday

Shop Small Mount Vernon and Lisbon is part of the national Small Business Saturday campaign started by American Express.

“Small businesses, like small Iowa towns, are the back-bone of our nation and our economy,” said Catherine Kennedy, Chair of the Mount Vernon-Lisbon project. “Support for small businesses and small towns is necessary now more than ever. Please plan on joining us on the fourth Saturday of September, October and/or November to Shop Small and give back to our small businesses!”

American Express founded Small Business Saturday in 2010. This event encourages shoppers to support small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This single day is now a powerful national movement because more businesses and shoppers are participating each year.
