Dear Friends of Mount Vernon–Lisbon,
As we close out 2025, I want to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who has walked alongside the Mount Vernon–Lisbon Community Development Group this year—the board of directors and committee members, our volunteers, city partners, community members, and yes, even our challengers. Each of you plays an important role in shaping a stronger, more vibrant community, and I am truly humbled by the support I have received and by the continued investment the CDG benefits from because of the work set in motion long before I ever stepped into this role.
Mount Vernon and Lisbon are not just the communities I serve—they are a part of who I am. My family’s history began here when my grandparents, Reynold and Arlene Brown, chose to raise their six kids in Mount Vernon. Like so many kids raised here, I grew up learning the value of hard work and community. As soon as I was able, I detassled for Rawley, worked at Gary’s Foods, Gwen’s Restaurant, and The Sun Newspaper. Each job, each connection, helped shape my understanding of what makes small towns thrive: people showing up for one another.
Stepping into the role of Executive Director of the CDG has challenged me professionally in ways I’m grateful for, while also bringing balance to my family life. Being able to live, work, and play in the same community is a gift not everyone gets—and I don’t take it lightly. This role has reaffirmed my belief that when we invest locally, support one another, and remain open to new ideas and perspectives, we all move forward together.
Thank you for your time, your talents, your passion, and your belief in Mount Vernon–Lisbon. The work we do is stronger because of you, and I look forward to continuing this journey together in the year ahead.
With gratitude,
Jessie Thurn, Executive Director
Mount Vernon–Lisbon Community Development Group
