The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG), a Main Street Iowa organization, will once again offer quarterly Community Leaders Breakfasts throughout the school year.
 The CDG Community Leaders Breakfasts will be held from 7:30-9 a.m. on Thursdays Oct. 14, Jan. 6, and April 7. The first meeting in the series, scheduled to take place Thursday, Oct. 14, will take place at the Cornell College Thomas Commons, Smith Dining Room, at a cost of $7 plus tax per person. A mask requirement is in affect on the Cornell College campus. Please note that Bon Appetit Cornell College is cashless but does accept debit and credit cards.
The Jan. 3, 2022, meeting will take place at Gwen’s Restaurant in Lisbon. The Thursday, April 7, 2022, breakfast will take place at the Cornell College Commons, Smith Dining Room.
A buffet breakfast will be available at both locations. Free parking at Cornell is available behind The Thomas Commons, and on First Street. All are welcome and no RSVP is required. Those who attend will hear updates from Lisbon and Mount Vernon City Halls, Lisbon and Mount Vernon schools, Cornell College, local service groups, and businesses.

The Main Street Approach is a copyrighted process of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Program has been used in Iowa since 1986 with a total of 56 communities having participated. Mount Vernon was selected as a Main Street community on March 4, 2008 by the State of Iowa, after submitting a comprehensive application and presenting to a select board of reviewers.
