There’s so much to do and see in Lisbon and Mount Vernon no matter your age. Experience the festivals celebrating Heritage and Sauerkraut, the annual sidewalk chalk extravaganza “Chalk the Walk” held the first full weekend in May and live music every weekend ranging from bluegrass to brass bands.
Hike nearby Palisades-Kepler State Park, canoe down the Cedar River, bike to the Historic Sutliff Bridge or sit back with a bag of Iowa-grown popcorn and take in a flic at the Bijou movie theater or watch a live theatre performance by the MVL Community Theatre.
Mount Vernon has an outdoor pool, off leash dog park, an 18-hole golf club, two disk golf courses and a sledding hill smack dab in the middle of town.
Lisbon has a splash pad, community gazebo, a walking trail along a branch of the original Lincoln Highway and a home for retired thoroughbreds. Each community has gyms, ball fields, and soccer fields.
