The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG) today announced the 10th Annual Mount Vernon Chocolate Stroll will take place Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The chocolate and music event invites guests to stroll down Mount Vernon’s historic First Street where participating businesses and chocolate vendors will offer chocolate and chocolate products for sample and/or sale. More than 20 chocolate vendors are expected to take part.
“Mount Vernon is home to several chocolatiers and this event celebrates all of them,” said Chocolate Stroll Committee Chair Sherene Player. “This year’s event will include such specialties as gourmet fudge, chocolate raspberry scones, artisan chocolate bars, chocolate-covered strawberries, as well as the more traditional chocolate truffles, cupcakes, shortbreads and caramels.”
New this year will be a .5K Fun Run Walk/Stroll, a family-friendly, handicapped-accessible mini walk/run purposely set up on Mount Vernon’s sidewalks to accommodate children, strollers, the elderly, and others with mobility issues. Start time for the .5K will be at 12:15 p.m. from the Old Fire Station parking lot at 215 1st St. NW. Registration forms can be found athttps://visitmvl.com Costumes are encouraged. All entrants will receive a sticker and a chocolate snack.
Also new this year will be a Chocolate Candy Making demonstration by chocolate lover Erica McConaughy at 1 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room. The demonstration will be free and open to the public and will result in the creation of Chocolate-covered Peanut Butter Balls.
Returning this year will be the annual “Make It With Chocolate” Dessert Contest open to the public. The contest is broken into two categories: Students (17 years of age and younger) and Adults (18 year of age and older). Bakers are asked to bring their favorite chocolate creation and an entry form to the Conference Room at City Hall, 213 1st St. NW, between 10:30 and 11 a.m., on the day of the event (winners will be announced at noon).
Applications for the “Make It With Chocolate” Baking Contest are available through the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group’s Web site at visitmvl.com. The contest is free to enter. Prizes will be awarded to the Top 3 places in each category.
Music this year will begin at 10 a.m. at the Old Fire Station, 215 First St. NW, Mount Vernon. Music highlights will include The Terrific Tanners at 10 a.m., James Kennedy and Friends at 11 a.m., Leah Woosely and the Mother Chuckers at 2 p.m.; and Full Moon Horizon at 3 p.m.
Kids’ games and face painting will take place at Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will include activities such as M&M Bingo and crafts throughout the day, and a balloon artist from 1 to 3 p.m.
