Thanks to the leadership of the City of Mount Vernon and Veteran Mike Woods, a Memorial Day Service will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, May 26th at the Mount Vernon Cemetery.

The service will include music by the Mount Vernon High School Band and Choir, and feature special readings by 2025 MVHS graduate Natalie Thuerauf (Gettysburg Address) and Mount Vernon’s Poet Laureate Scott Russell Morris, who will share an original poem.

Members of the Howard Hahn American Legion Post will be selling poppies at local businesses this week. Poppies will also be available at the cemetery on Memorial Day.

Volunteers are welcome to help put up the Avenue of Flags at the cemetery at 8:00 AM on Saturday, May 24, and at 3:00 PM on Monday, May 26 to respectfully retire them.

Inclement weather site: Mount Vernon Middle School Auditorium. Weather decision will be announced at 8:15 AM on Memorial Day.
