Mount Vernon Creates and the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council have announced a Writers Night event. The event is scheduled to take place Thursday, June 27, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon Creates, 121 1st St. NW, Mount Vernon.
Writers’ Night is a combination storytelling and spoken word event where local and regional writers and poets are asked to bring a 10-minute piece to read live on the last Thursday of the month. Audiences are invited to sit and listen or bring their own work to share. All writers are welcome to bring and read their work regardless of age or experience level.
“This Writers’ Night concept has been floating around Mount Vernon for many years now, and under many names and formats,” said Mount Vernon Poet Laureate Marianne Taylor. “Last month, MVAAC offered a very successful Favorite Poem Project at Mount Vernon Creates and we thought now might be the right time to bring the Writers’ Night event back.”
Hosted by local writer, storyteller and playwright Joe Jennison, the event is meant to encourage local and regional writing talent, regardless of content, format or style. Writers who like to read their work out loud and are interested in taking part, should contact Joe Jennison direct at [email protected]
