CDG Board approves DEI Statement

A committee made up of CDG and community representatives have created a DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Statement.

The statement was approved by the CDG at the May board meeting. Copies of the statement will be laminated and available to businesses and organizations to consider adopting for individual businesses and /or employee handbooks, if desired.

This is how it reads (Version One, of Two):

All are welcome here.

The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG) is a non-profit organization that aspires to create inclusive, safe and welcoming communities.

The CDG is committed to serving all Mount Vernon-Lisbon residents, employees, students and visitors, including but not limited to persons of every ability, age, appearance, culture, ethnicity, experience, family status, gender, gender expression, immigration status, job level, language, marital status, military/veteran status, nationality, perspective, physical ability, political ideology, race, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, skill, socio-economic status, and thinking style.

Building on the richness of its past while acknowledging the challenges of the future, the CDG is committed to empowering communities that value and celebrate all residents, employees, students and visitors.

The committee and CDG Board chose to go a step further as well, and created a second document that local businesses and organizations could adopt if they haven’t yet created a DEI statement of their own (Version Two of Two):

All are welcome here.

We aspire to create inclusive, safe and welcoming communities.

We are committed to serving all Mount Vernon-Lisbon residents, employees, students and visitors, including but not limited to persons of every ability, age, appearance, culture, ethnicity, experience, family status, gender, gender expression, immigration status, job level, language, marital status, military/veteran status, nationality, perspective, physical ability, political ideology, race, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, skill, socio-economic status, and thinking style.

Building on the richness of its past while acknowledging the challenges of the future, we are committed to empowering communities that value and celebrate all residents, employees, students and visitors.
