The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG), a Main Street Iowa Organization, will be hosting a volunteer recognition celebration on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Vernon, 301-309 1st St. NW. This event, with a theme of “Super Heroes: Because Our Volunteers are “MARVELous,” celebrates the 503 registered CDG volunteers who cumulatively have logged more than 54,226 volunteer hours since the organization began in 2008.
The basement of the Presbyterian Church will be turned into a Superhero-themed showplace complete with costumed superheroes, punch, and a build-your-own hero sandwich buffet. All are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero (not required). The event is free and open to everyone.
Also the Volunteer of the Year, CDG Business of the Year, Committee of the Year and Citizen of the Year honors will be recognized. In addition, CDG will be presenting awards to three outstanding volunteer board members: Brenda Langenberg, Connie Meier and Margaret Stevens.
Awards to be presented include:
Volunteer of the Year: Sherene Player
Committee of the Year: MSI Spring Workshop Committee
Business of the Year: Budget Blinds
Citizen(s) of the Year: Don and Judy Stine
“I hope the entire community will turn out to celebrate our wonderful volunteers,” said Joe Jennison, Director of the CDG. “Please come out and join us in thanking all of the volunteer superheroes who make our communities better each and every day.”
